Ecumenical News: The Deposing And Resignation of Bishop Blake-Allen Hammacher

The American Orthodox Catholic Church (AOCC) has entered a new chapter as we continue our commitment to integrity, accountability, and unity. A significant event in this transition has been the self deposement and resignation of Bishop Hammacher, following his self-deposition from office.

On December 31, 2024, an emergency synod was convened to address this development. After prayerful deliberation, the synod ratified Bishop Hammacher's resignation, marking the formal conclusion of his role within the AOCC. This decision, while challenging, was made with the intention of preserving the Church’s mission and protecting the sacred trust placed in its leadership.

The resignation of a bishop is a solemn moment that calls for reflection. The AOCC has taken this opportunity to recommit to its core values of faithfulness, transparency, and service. We recognize the importance of holding ourselves accountable to the high calling entrusted to us by Christ. In this time of renewal, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serve God’s people with humility and integrity.

The emergency synod’s decision was made with the utmost care for the well-being of the Church and its members. Our goal has always been to maintain unity and provide a stable foundation for our community. We are grateful for the support and prayers of our faithful members as we navigate this period of transition.

As we move forward, the AOCC remains dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel, fostering authentic worship, and nurturing spiritual growth. The changes in leadership do not alter our mission but strengthen our resolve to carry it out with renewed purpose and faithfulness. We trust that God’s grace will guide us as we continue to build His Church.

We invite all members of the AOCC and our broader Christian family to join us in prayer for the Church during this season of change. Let us pray for unity, wisdom, and a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Together, we will continue to uphold the teachings of Christ and shine as a light in the world.

The American Orthodox Catholic Church remains rooted in the unchanging truth of the Gospel and the enduring hope found in Jesus Christ. This moment in our history, though difficult, is also an opportunity for growth, healing, and greater faithfulness to our calling. May we move forward with courage, trusting in God’s unfailing guidance and provision.
