Ecumenical News: The Deposing And Resignation of Bishop Blake-Allen Hammacher

The American Orthodox Catholic Church (AOCC) has entered a new chapter as we continue our commitment to integrity, accountability, and unity. A significant event in this transition has been the self deposement and resignation of Bishop Hammacher, following his self-deposition from office.

On December 31, 2024, an emergency synod was convened to address this development. After prayerful deliberation, the synod ratified Bishop Hammacher's resignation, marking the formal conclusion of his role within the AOCC. This decision, while challenging, was made with the intention of preserving the Church’s mission and protecting the sacred trust placed in its leadership.

The resignation of a bishop is a solemn moment that calls for reflection. The AOCC has taken this opportunity to recommit to its core values of faithfulness, transparency, and service. We recognize the importance of holding ourselves accountable to the high calling entrusted to us by Christ.
